, you will find that the essay almost writes itself. The only essay writing skills you need to have are to search and supply ideas, which are the important parts of the essay anyway.
Don't let the thought of putting pen to paper daunt you.

The following simple steps will guide you to the good essay writing process:

• Decide your Essay Topic
• Create an Outline of Your Essay Ideas
• Write Your Thesis Statement
• Write the Body
• Write the main points.
• Write the sub-points.
• Elaborate on the sub-points.
• Write The Essay Introduction
• Write The Essay Conclusion

1. Decide Your Essay Topic

While selecting a topic for your essay writing task you may face two cases:

i) Subject Matter Has been Assigned

In case you have no choice to select a topic you may still not be in a position to jump to the next step. Think about the type of paper you have been asked to deliver. It could be a general overview, or a specific analysis of a topic? In case of general overview you can select a general topic like “Soccer Game” but if it is specific analysis then make sure to go for a fairly specific topic for example: “The Performance of Brazil in World cup”. The topic can be made specific if narrowed down.

ii) Subject Matter Has NOT been Assigned

In this case you are free to choose a topic of your own interest. If this is the case, then be sure to first define the purpose of your essay paper. It may be to persuade the reader to believe as you do, to educate people about something (person, place, thing or idea), to write a review of a movie you have seen or something entirely different. The point is whatever topic you choose, it must fit that purpose. Once you have determined the purpose of your essay, brainstorm ideas of your interest and list them on a piece of paper. Consider each topic you have listed down and go for the one you think have enough information to write about. Of course, the most important factor in choosing a topic is the number of ideas you can play with that topic. After you made a decision of a topic you have selected, then follow the guidelines mentioned in the above paragraph under the heading “The Subject Matter Has been Assigned”.

2.
Create an Outline of Your Essay Ideas

The purpose of an essay outline is to jot down your ideas on a paper, in a fairly organized format.

  • Start your essay outline by writing a topic at the top of your page.
  • Next starting with Roman numeral I, II, III and so on, write the main ideas or points in relation to your essay topics.
    • If you are to persuade, you would go for writing your best arguments.
    • If you are to explain a process, you would go for writing the steps that should be followed or executed.
    • If you are to inform about something, you would want to write the major categories into which your information can be divided.
  • Under each idea, write points that support that main idea.

When you are finished, you have a basic structure of essay. You are ready to continue with the essay writing task.

3. Write Your Thesis Statement

Now that what information you have planned to put in your essay, you are ready to compose your thesis statement. Thesis statement establishes the grounds of the essay by showing its topic supported the major point. Once you are done with formulating your thesis statement, you are ready to go further.

4. Write the Body Paragraphs

All the preparation up to this point has come to fruition for writing the body paragraphs. Now you are supposed to explain, describe or argue the topic you have chosen.

Each main idea that you jotted down in an outline format will become one of the body paragraphs. If you have three or four main ideas, you will have three or four body graphs. Each body will have the following basic structure:

  • Start writing your main point being stated in a sentence form.
  • Give the supportive points to act as an evidence or back-up for that main point.
  • Give further elaboration of that main point.

Once you have fleshed out each of your body paragraphs, one for each main point, you are ready to continue.

5. Write the Introduction and Conclusion of Essay

Your essay lacks only two paragraphs now. One is the entrance of your essay and the other is an exit. The entrance paragraph is the introduction of the essay which is designed to attract the reader’s attention. On the other hand, conclusion brings closure to the reader by summing up your points and providing a final perspective on your topic.

This is how you can successfully write a good essay by following essay writing guidelines.
